CSX's Virginia Avenue Tunnel in Washington, DC replaces a 3,800-foot, single-track tunnel built beneath Virginia Avenue in southeast Washington, DC more than a century ago with two 4,100-foot larger one-track tunnels to accommodate double-stack trains and improve the fluidity of freight and passenger trains on one of the region’s busiest rail lines.

C3M is responsible for the complete installation of electrical, communications, signaling, and security systems conduit infrastructure. In addition, C3M is installing electrical power distribution, lighting, and receptacles, controls for tunnel ventilation and drainage pumping systems, and security fiber optic cabling. The first tunnel was completed in December 2016, a month ahead of schedule, and CSX moved the first train through the structure on December 23rd.
