NICTD is constructing a second 26.6-mile track next to the existing track and performing upgrades to the entire alignment to improve safety along the South Shore Line. The project’s overall scope includes installing a new overhead catenary system (OCS), replacing existing street-running tracks, upgrading five station platforms, as well as constructing two tracks adjacent to the street along 18 miles, 22 at-grade crossings, 20 culverts, and 1,475 new parking spaces. C3M and joint venture partner Clark Construction will demolish, reconfigure, and install the rail system’s OCS.

Construction is underway, and completion is slated for 2024.
