This electrified streetcar was constructed along active streets in the Central Business District and Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati. The C3M project team installed the rail systems for the project, a 3.6-mile-loop connecting key communities in the city’s urban core. The project included the installation of approximately 3.6 miles of embedded single track on which a fleet of up to 5 modern streetcar vehicles operate in mixed traffic in one direction serving 18 station stops. The vehicles are powered by an overhead contact system (OCS) installed along the route.

The scope of work included the installation of traction power, overhead contact, signaling, communications, and electrical systems.  In total, C3M provided 4 pre-built traction power substations (TPSS) installed at various locations along the streetcar route as well as 1 built-in-place TPSS at the Maintenance and Operations Facility (MOF) along with the associated electrical services and positive and negative feeder cabling. C3M installed approximately 4.5 miles of 350 MCM OCS contact wire between the mainline and MOF. The signaling system for the Cincinnati Streetcar included manual switch machines with visual position indication and switch point heating as well as a remote-controlled powered switch machine with point protection. Communications systems included passenger information displays at each station stop, a radio system, and a SCADA system which allows TPSS remote control and monitoring from the MOF. C3M also provided canopy lighting at all station stops.

C3M was twice the recipient of MPD’s Safe Contractor of the Month award.

Since the streetcar entered revenue service, C3M has provided OCS maintenance services.
